Mr. and Mrs.

Many of my backyard birds are paired up including this sweet pair of juncos. On Monday there were easily 100 juncos feeding in my yard. Tuesday maybe 10. Today it's just this pair. They had better get going or all of the prime real estate up north will be taken.
The lovey doves have been plenty lovey. In the afternoon she snuggles into the sand while he stands watch. This pair is building a nest in a white pine outside my bedroom window.
The male red-winged blackbirds have been here singing their hearts out for over a week. The ladies just got in to town. They nest in a large wetland about a mile from here but they make loud group visits to my feeders. Yes, they are piggy but they are welcome here. I was watching a female this morning that had a lovely peach colored patch on her throat.
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny are living under the shed out back. They enjoy cleaning up the fallen seeds under the feeder. I know they are also munching on my flower beds at night and I will probably eventually curse them, but I really do enjoy watching them romp. Our dog Gidget is getting old and slow and shows no interest in them. Gidget is good buds with our pet bunny Buddy to so maybe she thinks all bunnies are off limits.

I have a pair of doves nesting in a gutter on my house. The two babies are about a week old and are getting frisky. It's hard not to love these gentle birds.

It's interesting to think that your dog may be disinterested in wild rabbits because you have a pet bunny. I wonder if it works that way.

Lynne-Have you been spying on your neighbors again?

Mojoman- I also think there is a sweetness about mourning doves.
I'm not entirely sure why the dog doesn't chase wild rabbits. She certainly goes nuts about squirrels. When she see's bunnies she just stands and looks for a moment then goes about her business.

Lynne, a hundred juncos? That must be quite a sight. The most I've ever seen in my yard at one time is five or six. You have an abundance of riches!

It may be ad nauseum by now, but isn't Spring a glorious time?
My juncos have been gone for...huh. I can't remember the first day I DIDN'T see them. Isn't it weird that their arrival is so memorable and their departure is silent?
I would love to have red-winged blackbirds here at the feeders. I had them here once, years ago. My Mom yells at them when they pig out at her feeders, but they would be welcome here.
Have you become a Peeping Lynne, Lynne?

Nice couples! I love mourning doves' subtle soft colors.

I don't know if you follow the mou-net or mnbird listservs, but yesterday I saw on one of them there was a report of a mockingbird not too far from you (Northridge Care Center).

Awwww - love is in the air (and under the shed:0) I'm like you, Lynne. I know some of these critters are considered nuisances, but still - they 'need' too.

Ah, love is in the air. Love the couples's tribute. I haven't seen a junco for a while. I enjoy the red-winged blackbirds but I wonder where the females are???
