There was lots of action in the back yard today. Several white-throated sparrows were scratching under the feeders while others sang "Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada" from the lilacs.
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny did what bunnies do. Aren't these little buns CUTE?? They've been just a blast to watch. The three of them dash around like their tails are on fire then they jump right up in the air, flip around and run again.
I heard a strange peeping/squawking sound from the maple right outside my upstairs window and saw this beautiful wood duck looking me in the eye about 10 feet away!! I drank him in through my bins for a good five minutes before I put them down to get my camera. I wish they'd stay.

THAT is an amazing duck! Looks wooden.
Our WT sparrows are still digging around down here, too.
No Way! A Wood Duck outside your window?! I rarely see them and then only up high in a cottonwood beside the local streams.
Now those bunnies are beyond cute. However, when your blog came up and I scrolled down my first impression was that I was looking at MICE. They're cut too, but I think I prefer bunnies:0)
A wood duck right outside your window--what a gift! But I always think it's so funny somehow, to see a duck sitting up in a tree.
It looks like someone stuck a decoy in your tree. (I am a tad jealous!) I really hope to see a Wood Duck this year. I did see white throated sparrows here yesterday and was very happy about that.
Ruth
Mary- I think it looks wooden too. WT, song and chipping sparrows galore here but I keep looking among them for others!
Cathy- I swear the bunnies grow visibly every day. I suppose prey animals need to grow quickly.
Deb- I could hardly believe my eyes. I looked like a painted decoy but fot all the noise it was making!
Ruth- He was such a beautiful bird- looked hand painted!
A Wood Duck? But you weren't even at Disneyland! :)
Seriously adorable birds but those BUNNIES! Too amazingly sweet!
Oh what cute bunnies! I had one living under the front steps last spring - and today I found nests in the fields. Can't wait to see more babies.
That is an absolutely beautiful photo of the wood duck - and quite an accomplishment! It's usually impossible to get close enough for a good photo. Well done!
-Great Wood Duck photo! I'm getting a litle bit envious-I've seen a few excellent Wood DDuck Photos on some of the blogs.-Why don't they pose when I'm around-Maybe they act differently in CT.
LauraO- Those bunnies are darn cute! So fun to watch.
Larry- Thank you! It was crazy- that duck sat for a good 20 minutes in the maple tree, at eye level, right outside my window!!
Only two baby bunnies? Where are the other 57?
I thought I was looking at mice at first too!
Baby bunnies are just the sweetest things, the way they dance and run!
Your wood duck is amazing - wow!
Do you have a box for them?
Susan- We only have (had) 3 baby bunnies under the shed. I've only seen 2 for the last couple days- I think one of them became a snack...
LauraH- Those bunnies have nearly doubled in size in less than a week! I need to get a wood duck nest box before next spring!
Yes, a wood duck nest box! Good idea. You've just outdone yourself with that photo, amazing!
