Happy Birthday Art!

It's a big day at our house today. It's Art's 50th birthday and it's also our 18th wedding anniversary. When the priest that married us gave us the dates available he laughed and suggested we take Art's birthday because then Art would never forget our anniversary! We were both 32 years old when we married- older by some standards. We met on a blind date and married in under a year! One of my brothers worked with Art's brother and they set us up. We met in July, were engaged at Christmas and married in June. I guess at 32 we just knew what we wanted. I could not be luckier.
Happy Birthday and Anniversary to my best friend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been a bit missing in blogging these last few weeks. Working a lot of night shifts really wipes me out. Good news on that front though, I should be moving to days pretty soon. I was offered a part time position in the Hematology and Blood Bank departments and will move to days as soon as my replacement is trained. Yahooo!!
Also- big news about Hasty Brook. For a while now Art and I have been thinking about buying more property connecting to Hasty Brook. We own 10 acres now with the Hasty Brook running through it. Because Hasty Brook is a designated trout stream, there is a DNR imposed 150 foot setback for disrupting the land all along the creek. The creek curves across the land about half way between the road and the back of the land (no road access at the back half). The ten acres we have now does not have enough room for a building site on the road half. Over the winter we found out the name of the owner of the 10 acres to our south and wrote them asking if they were interested in selling. Within a week we got a letter back with an asking price $5000 less than we were planning to offer! Molly and I drove to Duluth last week with our check and signed off with a lawyer that we hired to handle the transaction. We're waiting for a call from him early this week letting us know that he has the title and the 10 acres to our south will be ours! I'm thrilled! As soon as the deal is final, I'll be contacting folks at the county up there (St. Louis County) to look in to choosing a building site. I've all ready found the cabin plans that we like so we're hoping that next summer we might be starting a cabin at Hasty Brook.
It's been a dream of mine for so long.
Someone pinch me.
Linne! So you might actually be building an assisted living home at Hasty Brook for us old bird-brained geezers for our retirement? Don't forget to include wheelchair ramps. LOL! Oh, I hope this works out for you. So exciting!
And, having DAY HOURS! Are the angels with you, or what!
Happy Birthday to Art and Happy Anniversary to you both. Sweet.
Love,
May
What a wonderful day celebrating your anniversary and Art's birthday together. That priest had the right idea, he won't forget :-)
Looking forward to hearing more about future plans at Hasty Brook. Is it near the Hasty Brook sign on I94 between St. Cloud & Monticello? At least I think I saw a Hasty Brook sign there, because it made me think of you when I was driving.
Hi folks, Art here. Thank you very much for all the birthday wishes. Its been a very good day for me. My coworkers (a bunch of thirtysomethings) were all in awe of my advanced age, and my kids were even nice to me. Lynne showed me that 50 isn't so bad, now I can't wait for 60!!!
A cabin. At Hasty Brook. Awesome beyond awesome-ness.
Happy Birthday, Art! And Happy Anniversary!
Can we all come up when the cabin is finished? You know, just to check it out and make sure it is worthy of you.
Happy birthday to your DH and Happy Anniversary to you both!
Glad to hear your work schedule will be nicer!
And Hasty Brook - wow - could I have driven past an exit on the interstate from Fargo to Minneapolis with that name? I thought of you anyway.
May- I'm soo excited about the day hours. It will be a much needed change in my life.
Ramps are on the list!
Shilpa- Thanks for the kind words and for stopping in. I hope all is well with you too.
Jayne- Things seem to be falling in to place for us right now. I'm grateful.
Red- It's a good day for a birthday isn't it?! I'll be back. You take wonderful pictures.
Liza- It will be great to take care of such a wonderful parcel of woods.
Ruth- After being out of the medical field for 10 years, it took me nearly 6 years to work my way back to day hours. The night shift was so much easier when I was younger!
Linda- Thank you! Can't wait for your visit! I'm very excited to meet you and your husband and for you both to see my Hasty Brook.
Marsha- You're right- Art will never forget our anniversary and I'll never forget Art's birthday either! Hasty Brook isn't a town name, just what we call our place. (Hasty Brook runs through it though) We're located north of the town of Cromwell, a little south and west (40 miles) of Duluth. There is a town called Hasty near St. Cloud.
ncmountainwoman- I thank you on many levels too!
Art- Thanks for pointing out to everyone that I am indeed older than you.
Susan- I felt the pinch!! You can come to Hasty ANY time! Come to Minnesota and I will take care of you. Promise.
Barefoot- Thank you. It's nice when things fall together. Isn't that a funny picture? He's supposed to be a manly man shaving with an axe!
Possumlady- The door will be open for you if you decide to come back to Minnesota for some time in the north woods.
Laura- No, Hasty is near Duluth on the east side of the state. Thanks for thinking of me though!
Super congratulations to you on your new 10 acres! I hope you can get that cabin up next year like you plan. You're living my dream.
Lynne, first let me say, congrats on your anniversary!!!! Looks like Art has a sense of humor!
Second, glad to hear we may be hearing more from you and Hastybrook!
Third, I'm so happy for you about the land and the cabin cause I know you will preserve as much in its natural state as possible. Could there be a Hastybrook Nature Center or Wildlife Area in the future????? The birds will love you!
BTW, have you seen a blogger by the name of Shellmo? I think she sells log cabins and has a whole blog about them.
How wonderful to see a dream come true for you!
How nice will your "cabin" be? Nice enough (heated?) to stay in year-round? Maybe to retire to?
You're so deserving!
WOW! Congratulations to you and Art--on your new land, your anniversary, and on making it to 50. Of course, he shaves with an ax, tough guy that he is, so no wonder he's made it 50.
I've been absent on the blogs lately too. Life gets busy in the summertime, what with all the lying about in the sun and sipping lemonade (with gin in it) and such.
