I made a quick trip to Eastman Nature Center this afternoon. It was 40 degrees! I can't remember the last day with temps over freezing. Water was running in the streets. I took off down one of the trail loops with my bins and my camera. About 30 feet down the path I hit some of that water running over the icy packed snow and fell ass over teakettle, sliding another five feet before coming to a stop flat on my back! Dang- why didn't I bring my Yaktrax? I gathered what was left of my dignity and limped back to the nature center building and watched the birds at the feeders.
The trees were full of woodpeckers. This little downy seemed to be winking while he posed at the suet feeder.
I watched this hairy woodpecker preening on a nearby tree and caught this silly picture. Art thinks it looks like he's taking a bow but John thinks it looks like he's sniffing his pits!
I'm off to bed with some Advil and American Idol.

So sorry to hear about the fall! Love your woodpecker photo's! Hope you don't hurt too much tomorrow!
Hope you don't hurt too badly!
"ass over teakettle"...
You kill me!
Hope you are okay.
Better put some ice on that sore bum and that sore pride.
LOL
OUCH Lynne. I was hurting right along with you. Love the woodpeckers, and hope your back and bum are feeling better today.
I slipped on the ice on my driveway three days ago. I'm still sore from that full body slam! Nice that we're having warm weather -- always a welcome change in February.
A fall on the ice messes up my mind for the rest of the day. I hope you are not too sore... Great woodpecker photos. I'm jealous!
Ouch! I have a ten day old bruise on my hip from ice skating, and it still hurts. It seems like the ice gets more slippery as it starts to melt. Hope the "day after" isn't too painful!
The day after...
Thanks everybody! Stiff today, but I went to mass this morning (Ash Wednesday). It was mostly me and all the oldsters. I was limping and tottering along with them!
Sorry to hear about your fall Lynne! Hope you're feeling better.
Love your woodpecker photos. Sniffing his pits - good one!
American Idol seems to have some pretty good talent this years.-Especially the women. I'm always pretty enthusiastic about running in to a Hairy Woodpecker around here. They seem to behave a little differently than Downies and have a more robust call. The bird in the picture is probably admiring the April fresh scent of Downy-oops-that's right-It's a Hairy.
Larry- I agree, the women Idolettes are a better pool of talent. I checked out your blog- you seem to be a bit of a punster! Your blog is great FUN and I've bookmarked it to visit again! Thanks for stopping in here. :)
