Way up here in Minnesooota we have Sven and Ole jokes and Ole and Lena jokes. We like to laugh at ourselves and our predominantly Scandinavian heritage. There's not much else to do in January... No sir-ee Bob!
I thought I'd share a Sven and Ole joke
Sven and Ole are walking down a street in Madison, Wisconsin, when and they see a sign on a store that reads, "Suits $5.00 each, shirts $2.00 each, trousers $2.50 per pair." Sven says to his pal, "Looky here! We could buy a whole gob of dese, take 'em back to Duluth, sell 'em to our friends, and make a fortune. Now when we go in there, you be quiet, okay? Just let me do the talkin' 'cause if they hear your accent, they might think we're ignorant, and try to cheat us. Now, I'll try not to sound like we're from Minnesota. They go in and Sven says with his best Wisconsin accent,"I'll take 50 of them suits at $5.00 each, 100 of them there shirts at $2.00 each, and 50 pairs of them there trousers at $2.50 each. I'll back up my pickup and ....." The owner of the shop interrupts, "You're from Minnesota, ain't you?" "Well...yeah," says a surprised Sven. "How'd you know dat!" "Because this is a dry-cleaners."
If you liked that one I've got more- Ya-sure, you betcha!

Wisconsin borrows the same jokes. Not surprising, since lots of folks don't know they are two different states.

Good one, Lynne.
Several years ago, we attended a wedding in Minnesota--we stayed in Fargo, then went across the river to MN. While in Fargo, we stopped in a gift shop and remarked about the movie, and the accents--man, did we get dirty looks. Nobody liked hearing us (easterners) say "You betcha."
Thanks Lynne, it's been a long time since I've heard a good Sven & Ole joke, love it. It's Lizette's first, I guess I will have to get a good Sven & Ole joke book.
Lol
My parents must have kept my ears covered during the Sven and Ole jokes. Good one!
Very good! LOL as I am sure everybody else did too.
Tee hee hee!!! Too cute!
I have never heard of Sven and Ole. They sound like very good natured chaps, lol!
Boy, your rendering of the accent is great, Lynne! I watched Fargo the other night--plenty of ya-youbetchas.
That's so funny Lynne...now I have to tell you my step mom is from Minnesota and she has a Norwegian background. And when we got our Norwegian Elkhound she said you have to name him Ole...that's the name they use for Norwegian jokes. So that is how Ole Viggo got his name! He is a funny funny dog!
OMG Lynne this is too funny! Thanks for the laughs!
I love it. Keep them coming!!!
Lynne,
Made me laugh..another one, please!
Oh, that was good, Lynne! Our pastor enjoys telling Sven and Ole and Lena jokes, too. He's of Norwegian background and grew up around Bemidji, and went to college there. I guess you can say "you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy!" ;o)
Better save some of dem jokes for WV then. Dose folks might like hearing dat real Minnesoda accent. ;-)
hee hee! As my Mom said, our Pastor tells those Minnesooota jokes (he's Norwegian) and I'm emailing this to him :) I haven't heard him tell this one yet.
I'm laughing!
